First meeting of the Board of Directors of the new Optical Radionet Pilot program

Aristarchos telescope participates in an international network of astronomical stations in the Optical Radionet Pilot program’s framework to strengthen the research in Observational Astronomy.

The director of IAASARS, Dr. Spyros Βasilakos, participated today, 23.03.2021, in the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the new Optical Radionet Pilot program (ORP: 2021-2025) funded by the European Commission with the amount of 15M€. The project involves 37 astronomical stations from Europe, Australia, and South Africa, which for the next 4 years will make observations in the optical and radio part of the spectrum. The main goal of the Optical Radionet Pilot program is to significantly increase the research possibilities in the field of Observational Astronomy.

We are pleased to announce that the Helmos Observatory with the “Aristarchos” telescope will actively participate in this large observational network, thus increasing the influence of Greek Observational Astronomy at the international level.
