Helmos Observatory is located on mount Helmos (Aroania) in the Northern Peloponnese at an altitude of 2340 m (22˚ 11′ 46″ East, 37˚ 59′ 04″ North), 130 km west of Athens and about 15 km from the city of Kalavryta. The site is one of the darkest areas in Greece and Europe.

The Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS)  is located on the grounds of the National Observatory of Athens in Penteli, about 19 km northeast of the historical building of the Observatory at the center of Athens.

Access

Official visitors and observers are kindly asked to contact NOA before their arrival in order to arrange for their transportation to the Observatory.

Weather

Between November and May the site is usually covered by snow and is accessible through the nearby ski lift and track.
